THE GREEN APOTHECARY - DAY 4

I like today's topic because I've been living in the Northern part of Nigeria even though I originated from the Southwestern part. Its safe to say that I am both a Southwesterner and a Northerner, lol.

Growing up, these are five herbs most Northerner have in their home apothecary and they are t are commonly used in traditional medicine in this part of Nigeria:

1. Moringa (Moringa oleifera): Known as "Zogale" in Hausa, Moringa is a versatile herb used to treat various ailments, including fever, rheumatism, and digestive issues.

2. Neem (Azadirachta indica): Called "Dongoyaro" in Hausa, Neem is a popular herb in Northern Nigerian traditional medicine. It's used to treat skin conditions, wounds, and fever, as well as to repel insects.

3. Senna (Cassia senna): Known as "Farna in Hausa, Senna is a natural laxative used to treat constipation, indigestion, and other digestive issues.

4. Bitter Leaf (Vernonia amygdalina): Called "Shuwaka" in Hausa, Bitter Leaf is a popular herb used to treat fever, malaria, and digestive issues. It's also believed to have anti-inflammatory properties.

5. African Basil (Ocimum gratissimum): Known as "Daidoya" in Hausa, African Basil is a fragrant herb used to treat various ailments, including fever, cough, and digestive issues. It's also believed to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

These herbs are widely available in Northern Nigeria and are often used in traditional medicine.

Well, till we get to the promised land, I shall be waiting for when you'll pass me a glass of water and thank God for the gift of grace for this race.

Cheers to Infinity and Beyond!
